Principal Research Data Scientist
Set the research direction for how Stackvale turns operational data into automation that actually moves the needle.
Stackvale builds and runs the technology businesses depend on — websites, booking, payments, and the operations glue between them. As our Principal Research Data Scientist, you'll own the research agenda behind the products and services that make those businesses run: forecasting demand, detecting operational leaks, and designing the models and experiments that turn messy real-world data into decisions owners can trust. This is a hands-on principal role — you'll set direction and still ship.
What you'll do
- Own the data-science research roadmap and translate fuzzy business problems into well-posed, measurable ones.
- Design, prototype, and validate models (forecasting, anomaly/leak detection, segmentation, causal/experiment design) against real client operations data.
- Build rigorous evaluation and experimentation frameworks; define what 'good' means before shipping.
- Partner with engineering to take research from notebook to a reliable production service.
- Set standards for reproducibility, data quality, and responsible, privacy-respecting use of data.
- Mentor engineers and analysts, and act as the technical authority on data-science decisions.
What we're looking for
- 8+ years applying statistics/ML to real problems, including a principal/staff-level scope of influence.
- Deep fluency in Python and the modern DS/ML stack; strong SQL.
- A track record of research that shipped and measurably changed an outcome — not just papers or prototypes.
- Excellent experiment design and causal-inference instincts; you know when a metric is lying to you.
- Clear communication — you can make a model's tradeoffs legible to a non-technical business owner.
Nice to have
- Experience with operations, fintech, SaaS, or marketplace data.
- Time-series forecasting and demand modeling at scale.
- Comfort with production engineering (TypeScript/Next.js, Postgres, cloud) so research survives contact with reality.
- Built or scaled a data-science function from an early stage.
